Harriett H. McNamara

Harriett Abby Hoffman McNamara, 80, of Peterboro, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Crouse Community Center in Morrisville.

She was born May 23, 1942 in Oneida, a daughter of the late Clarence and Mildred Hartjen Hoffman. She graduated from Morrisville Eaton Central School District and attended Oneonta State College. On July 2, 1966, Harriett was united in marriage to Richard J. McNamara at St. Therese’s Catholic Church in Munnsville. He predeceased her on January 3, 2011. Harriett served as a Smithfield Town Justice for over 25 years and worked as a paralegal for Nodell, Jones & Kendall Law Office for over 30 years until her retirement. She was a member of the Magistrates Association, Professional Secretaries International (PSI), the Red Hat Society and was an avid bowler.

She spent her entire life on Pleasant Valley Road with her Pleasant Valley family. Her youth was spent on the family farm, later in her adult years, she moved up the road to the home her and Dick built on land gifted from her parents. Together they raised three children that Harriett was extremely proud of. Throughout her entire adult life, she could be found at the courtside, field or wherever her children and grandchildren were playing sports. She was the best fan! She supported many children throughout MECS district in sports and otherwise. In the 1980’s she became Town Justice, serving her community with compassion and fairness.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Richard “Rick” and Kim McNamara of Cazenovia; Melissa and Michael Rogers of Phoenix; Susan and Rodger Parkhurst of Morrisville; a brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Rebecca Hoffman of Morrisville; a sister and brother- in law, James and Colleen Coulthart; her grandchildren, Ryan Patrick McNamara and fiancé Megan Nichols, Angela Miller, Abby and Andrew Lasnicki, Charles Clark II and Alyssa Frantz, Cameron Clark, Coby and Kathryn Merkle, Andrew Parkhurst and Mackenzie Sternburg. Her loving great-grandchildren; Alaina, Elliette and Theo along with several nieces,

nephews and cousins, especially John and Alicia Hartjen of Camillus and lifelong friends Margaret Davis and Elinor Broga.

Services will be held at 5:00 pm Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at the Smithfield Community Center, 5255 Pleasant Valley Rd., Peterboro, NY 13035. There are no calling hours. An opportunity to express your thoughts or prayers for Harriett will be at the conclusion of the service.

Interment in the Peterboro Cemetery is private at the convenience of her family.
