Herman O. Worzel

Herman O. “Oakie” Worzel, 96, of Route 26, passed away July 5, 2023 at the Crouse Community Center in Morrisville.

He was born March 30, 1927 in Pond Eddy, NY, a son of the late Herman J. and Blanche Quick Worzel. He was a graduate of Eldred High School, SUNY, Morrisville and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in science and education from SUNY, Oswego. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Bureau of Aeronautics until his honorable discharge. He taught Auto Technology for 36 years at SUNY, Morrisville until retiring. On August 20, 1949, Herman married Carolyn E. Cole in Eaton, a loving union of 73 years.

He was a member of the Eaton Community Church; SPEBSQA Mohawk Valley Chapter and the Traveling Sandpiper Quartet; a former member of the Morrisville Masonic Lodge and the Eaton Fire Department. He had also been an Eagle Scout and a Boy Scout Leader. He loved fishing and enjoyed hunting, camping, gardening, and Syracuse University sports. He played the harmonica and canoed the Delaware river.

Surviving are his loving wife Lyn; his children, Kenneth “Skip” and Manako Worzel of Fairfax, VA; Gary and Cindy Worzel of Elyria, OH; Joelle and James Faulks of Utica; grandchildren, Krista and Tyler Christie of Lyman ME; Andrew and Sara Faulks of Norwich and their children, Brayden, Juliann and Derick; Casey and Keith Winder of Berea, OH; Jennifer Worzel of Portsmouth, NH; a sister, Virginia Fredericks of Pond Eddy, NY; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Myers and a brother, Gordon Worzel.

Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 31 Cedar St., Morrisville, NY 13480 on Wednesday July 12, 2023 from 11am to 1pm, followed by a service at 1pm.

Interment will be in the Eaton Village Cemetery.
