James G. “Jim” Coyle, 85, of New Hartford, formerly of Waterville, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare in New Hartford. He was born on June 27, 1936 in Jersey City, NJ, a son of Frank and Rose McHugh Coyle where he received his early education at St. Patrick’s Grammar School and was a graduate of St. Peter’s Prep School. On May 10, 1980, James married Margaret Dennehy Brown at St. Bernard’s Church in Waterville. She predeceased him on April 14, 2018. Jim was a dairy farmer in New Jersey, and also after moving to Waterville. Later, he worked for Mohawk Valley Community College until retiring in 2000. Following his retirement, he drove the Colgate Cruiser in Hamilton. He loved music and sang with the Voices of the Tabernacle in Sherburne for many years. He also played trumpet. Jim enjoyed football, especially his favorite team the NY Giants. Among his favorite past times were walking, gardening, feeding the birds, and enjoying the company of his family and friends. Jim was a communicant of St. Bernard’s Church and attended St. Mary’s Church in Clinton.
Surviving are his loving children and their spouses, James G. (Haydee) Coyle, Jr. of Manchester, NJ; Kathleen Coyle (husband Paul Sirois) of Windham, NH; Kevin Coyle of N. Brookfield; Jerry (Maria) Coyle of Compton, CA; stepchildren, Patricia Kellish of NC; Eileen Conley of Huntersville, NC; Lorraine (William) Wynne of Glenmonte; Rick Brown (wife Eve Scofield) of Rochester; Kevin (Sue) Brown of Albion; Margaret Brown of Summerville, SC; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by a sister, Rosellen Gussie and a brother, Frank Coyle, Jr.
A Memorial Service will be private from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville. There are no calling hours. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Norwich, NY at the convenience of the family. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Waterville Fire Department, 222 E. Main St., Waterville, NY 13480; or to America’s Greatest Heart Run & Walk, c/o Utica College 1600 Burrstone Rd., Utica, NY 13502.
