John Allen Brown

December 28, 1948 — May 3, 2022

Sherburne

John Allen Brown, 73 of South Mulligan Road, Sherburne, NY, died unexpectedly in his beloved sugar house on Tuesday May 3, 2022. Our family rejoices that our devoted husband, Dad, and Grandpa (Boppa) is home with his Lord and Savior.  We know this, from Romans 10:9 - “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

John was born December 28, 1948 in Norwich, the first son of the late Leon (Beaner) Haskell and Betty Miller Brown. John was a 1967 graduate of Sherburne High School and served his country honorably in the US Navy from 1968 to 1974.  On October 19, 1974, he married his cherished wife, Wendy S. Crane, at the Colgate University Chapel.  He graduated in 1979 from Colgate with his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics.

John was a person of faith and lived his life serving and leading his beloved family.  Surviving are his wife Wendy; his mother-in-law Charlotte Crane of Sherburne; his children Jason and Abby Brown, Kylie and Steve Davis, Erin and Chris Young all of Sherburne, Nathan and Kim Brown of Tampa, FL., and Caleb and Naomi Brown of Georgetown.  If you knew John, you knew of the love he had for his thirteen grandchildren.  He loved to push them on the swing, give them buggy and 4-wheeler rides, play wiffle-ball, bounce on the trampoline, attend sporting events, and integrate them into his daily life.  His grandchildren include Owen, Lydia, Eli Brown (Jason), Sadie, Sawyer, Shepherd and Shadrach Davis (Kylie), Charlotte, Dean, Hazel and Harvey Young (Erin), and Milly and Rosie Brown (Nathan).  John is also survived by his sisters and brothers in law, Linda and David Campbell of OH,  Arlene and James Nichols of Chenango Forks, Dolores and Brad Kruchten of Rochester, Laura and Tim Foley of Marion; brothers, Dennis Brown of Sherburne and Kevin Brown of Rochester; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was predeceased by his parents, Leon and Betty, his father-in-law, Parman Crane and his grandson, Leaf Boaz Davis.

In his professional life, John worked passionately for his clients as a financial adviser for over 40 years.  After retirement, he enjoyed working part-time at S&S Appliances in Hamilton.  He was an active member of Faith Baptist Tabernacle Church in Sherburne, leading the Missions Committee.  John enjoyed many hobbies, predominately playing golf as a member of Seven Oaks Golf Club, Hamilton.  He also loved gardening and operating the Brown’s Family Maple Syrup Farm.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 4:00 PM at Faith Baptist Tabernacle Church, Sherburne. Visitation will be held Saturday from 1 to 4 PM prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
