Maxine H. McCarty

Maxine Hovey McCarty, 94, of Sherburne, NY, passed away Monday, December 7, 2020 at the Chase Memorial Home in New Berlin, NY.
She was born on December 23, 1925 in Lyons Falls, NY, a daughter of William and Mary Venetia Mealus Hovey. She was a graduate of Sherburne High School and the Powelson Business Institute in Syracuse. On October 2, 1948, Maxine married Sheldon K. McNeil in Sherburne who predeceased her in 1962. On December 26, 1964, she married Clair B. McCarty in Sherburne. He predeceased her in 1992. Maxine had worked at Norwich-Eaton Pharmaceuticals, the Chenango County Bank and Trust of Norwich, and, for a few years was a secretary for the Sherburne-Earlville Central School District. Most importantly, she was a homemaker who loved and cared for her family.
Maxine was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Sherburne where she was a member of the adult fellowship, the United Methodist Women, church newsletter secretary and taught Sunday school. She was also dedicated to her community, volunteering whenever needed. She coordinated the 60+ delivery of lunches for the United Methodist Church. For over 20 years, she was a member of the Broken Squares Dance Club.
She is survived by her children, K. Terry and Bonnie McNeil, Robin and Ken Van Wagner, all of Sherburne; step-children, Steve and Barbara McCarty of Sherburne, Donald and Robin McCarty of Harbor Springs, MI; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Dorothy Marsters, Mary Foster,and Helen Laure; and brothers, Louis, Victor and Donald Hovey.
Due to current health issues, a memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church at a later date.
Interment will be in West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
