Patricia H. Burke, 97, of Fayetteville, formerly of Hamilton NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 – just 16 days shy of her 98th birthday – at the most wonderful Francis House in Syracuse.
Born on August 26, 1924 in Syracuse, the daughter of Walter J. and Helen Hunt Welch, she was a graduate of Nottingham High School in Syracuse and Southern Seminary in Virginia. Patricia married William L. Burke who predeceased her on July 30, 1997. Together, they raised seven children. Along with running the show at home, Pat made invaluable contributions as an administrative assistant for the family law office in Hamilton.
As the legions of souls she welcomed into her home with her heart and arms wide open can attest, she was an indomitable matriarch, a powerfully positive force for goodness, laughter, and joy, and one heck of a good cook! A woman of tremendous faith, she was a longtime communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Hamilton, where she threw her heart and soul into her commitments to the Altar & Rosary Society and to the CCD program as a teacher. Most recently, she was a parishioner at St. Anne’s Church in Manlius.
Surviving are her children, Maureen O’Sullivan of Cocoa Beach, FL; William L Burke, III (Patricia) of Needham, MA; Marian Blain (John) of Hamilton; Thomas J. Burke of Fayetteville; John M. Burke (Wendi) of Redondo Beach, CA;11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by son, James W. Burke and by daughter, Patricia H. Burke -Risley, and by her sister, Anne Taylor, and brothers, Walter “Tony” Welch and William Welch.
Friends are invited to call at St. Mary’s Church, 16 Wylie St., Hamilton, NY on Monday, August 15, 2022 from 10-11am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am.
