Rose L. Wellman

November 2, 1932 — May 17, 2021

Rose L Wellman of Sherburne went to be with her Lord on May 17, 2021 at her home. She was the daughter and only child of John C Morgan and Hazel Jaquay Morgan of Earlville. She graduated from Earlville Central School in 1950. She married Charles E Wellman on October 14, 1950 at the Morrisville Eaton parsonage by Rev. Arthur Root Jr of Earlville. Charles predeceased her April 9, 2019. She and Charlie raised 8 loving children and lived wherever they could find work as a young farm laborer for the first 12 years. After Charlie went to work on construction in 1963, they bought their first house in Plymouth on Tinker Ridge where family still lives. She helped to “make ends meet” by working outside the home at Gladding in South Otselic, TACO in Sherburne, Norwich Knitting Mill and Norwich Shoe Factory in Norwich, Steffanellis Grove Park in Norwich, Cassabooms Restaurant on Route 20 in Madison and the Blue Jay Restaurant in Sherburne. Rose sold AVON for over 25 years. She also belonged to the Women of the Moose and the DAR for many years. She was a member of the Earlville Methodist Church and often attending with her Mother Hazel Morgan, who came to live with her and Charlie in 1991 when they moved back to Sherburne. Rose was always helpful to others, especially her school friend Dorothy Griffin’s mother Kate Griffin as she was like a second mother to her when they were growing up. She was an active member of Quincy Square Museum in Earlville. Rose loved to crochet, knit, cross stitch, coloring and many other crafts for years. She was a member of the Smyrna knitting group.
Rose was the Sherburne Town Historian from 1998-2012 when she was forced to retire because of a heart attack. She wrote many history books about Sherburne and Earlville, all published by Sherburne News over the years. She wrote a weekly column for the Sherburne News for nearly 20 years. Rose was instrumental in building up the Sherburne Historic Park and the Log Cabin. Whatever she did she did throughout life, she went after it full tilt! She did family Genealogy for years especially the Jaquay, Hall, Deyo, and Doyles along with the Wellman and Lewis genealogy. Always having a little wanderlust Rose and Charlie travelled to most of the USA only missed 2 states while visiting friends and relatives as well as going where Charles’s work called him as a foreman for Cianbro construction Company. They even managed to complete the BIG thing on their wish list, A trip to Alaska.
Rose is survived by her children Charles (Malin) Wellman from Jefferson, NC; Patricia (Ralph) MacBlain of Smyrna; Lucinda (Randy) Keyes of Plymouth; Lamott (Kathy) Wellman of Sherburne; Bummy (Gina) Wellman of Edenton, NC; John (Sherry) Wellman of Norwich Daughter Christine and Husband Richard both predeceased and both were especially important people to Rose and Charles and the rest of the family.Son Charles and wife Malin of NC. Daughter Leah Gragg her sons Tobin and Caleb Gragg, her partner Kris and her children Tyler, Gregory Hayden, Greyson, Isaac, Arwyn, and Edward Perry of NC. Daughter Pollen Williamson and husband Wendell, their two children Noah and Lincoln of NC. Son Colle Bustin and wife El. And son Elan Bustin. Charles was predeceased by his first wife the mother of his daughter’s Wanda Bright. Daughter Patricia and husband Ralph MacBlain of Smyrna, NY. Her daughter Pamela Clark of Sherburne and Pam’s daughter Jennifer and husband Kyle Newcomb of Liverpool, NY. Patricia’s other daughter Penny and husband Corey Dunn and daughters Molly and Ruby Dunn of Fairport, NY. Patricia and Pam have been Rose and Charles’s caretakers for a little over a decade. Daughter Lucinda and husband Randy Keyes of Plymouth, NY. Daughter Chara and husband Jay Homovich of Maryland. Daughter Josyln Ward and son Trent Kasmarcik of Utica and Troy Kasmarcik of Norwich, NY. Daughter Janai and husband Lawrence Leight III of SC with their son Aiden, Skylar, and Ryan and daughter Lexus. Predeceased by infant son Lawrence Wesley Leight. Son Ian and wife Rebecca Keyes and their sons Cole and Carson from Preston. Son Lamott and wife Kathy (Kathleen) Wellman and their son Joshua Wellman of Sherburne, NY. Son Bummy (Ralph) and wife Gina of Edenton, NC. Daughter Tanya Wellman and partner Angela of VA. Son CT (Charles T) Wellman of NC. Son Eric Wellman and Jennifer Argent of NC. Son John Wellman and wife Sherry of Norwich, NY. Son Nate Beckwith and his daughter Kylee, and son Jacobi and soon to be born baby. Son Douglas Nichols. Daughter Shyamia Stone and fiancé Gabriel Pradella with a Baby due in September of CA. Daughter Holly Bigelow and her children Beyla Cron, Mason Wellman-Bates, and Leo and Ali Bigelow, (Ali is predeceased). Daughter Nicole Wellman and daughter Emma Rose Collier. Daughter Yalanda Stone and her children Melodee, Maybellene and Naree. Son Thomas Wellman (predeceased) and his widow Virginia Osborne Wellman and their sons Justin Wellman (predeceased) and Tyler Wellman. Lisa Ward a special friend who lived with Rose and Charles for 11 years also survives. Rose was predeceased by Charles’s cousin Joyce Decker (Aunt Joyce) whom was a special friend for an exceptionally long time. There are 2 ongoing scholarships being made one for Rose and one for Charles. More info to follow all donations appreciated. There will be no calling hours or services but there will be a celebration of life Saturday July 31, 2021 A BUSY LADY HAS GONE!!! DON’T FORGET I LOVE YOU!!!!!!
