Warren T. Ramsdell, 92, of Morrisville, NY formerly of Poolville, NY, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2009 at the Crouse Community Center, Morrisville.
He was born November 7, 1916 in North Brookfield, NY, a son of Albert and Alice Thayer Ramsdell, and was a graduate of North Brookfield High School. On November 14, 1937, Warren married Genevieve “Jean” Ders in Utica, NY. Together, they owned and operated the Central Hotel in North Brookfield from 1943 until 1948. In 1951, they purchased the Poolville Country Store, operating it until 1961. During WWII, Warren had worked for Savage Arms. Later, he was the Postmaster in Poolville, and had also worked for the NYS Department of Labor for many years. Jean predeceased him on June 15, 1995.
Mr. Ramsdell was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Hamilton. He was an avid hunter and a strong supporter of the National Rifle Association.
Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Dolores Taylor of Morrisville and Sylvia Ramsdell and Terry Strong of Auburn; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sherrie Ramsdell of Chino Valley, AZ; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Muriel Burnham of North Brookfield, Phyllis and Bruce Cramer of Norwich; his grandchildren, Caprice and Marek Markowski of Morrisville, Christopher and Shari Taylor of LaFayette, Kelly and Donald Guess of Phoenix, AZ, Eric and Jennifer Strong of Columbus, GA; his great-grandchildren, Sarah Markowski, Sophia Taylor, Sloan Guess, Madeline and Sam Strong, Marta and Jeff Lowder, Magda and Rob Forbes; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Tuesday, April 7, 2009 from St. Mary’s Church, Hamilton, followed by interment in the Poolville Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St., Hamilton on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
